WP through to Women’s Interprovincial final
Defending Women’s Interprovincial champions, Western Province, booked their place in the 2018 final in style on Saturday with a comprehensive 47-5 victory against Eastern Province in their final pool match.
The teams entered the match in Cape Town in second and third place on the standings respectively in a winner takes all game for a place in the final against Border. Western Province delivered the goods, outscoring the visitors seven tries to one.
The final between Border and Western Province will mark their third in a row at the BCM Stadium in East London.
Western Province made their presence felt from the outset against Eastern Province and powered their way to a 26-5 halftime lead at Brookside in Claremont. They built on this balanced showing in the second half to finish the match with seven tries, while they denied the Port Elizabeth outfit from adding to their score.
Alana-lee Horne scored a brace the Capetonians, while former Springbok Women’s Sevens player Kirsten Conrad also made a solid contribution with a try and three conversions for 11 points.
The Golden Lions will face Boland in the Women’s Interprovincial B Section final, which will be played as a curtain-raiser to the A Section final on Saturday, 29 September.
